Phone care

Find your iPhone model, storage, battery health and carrier lock

Find the details a phone quote needs in Settings, and learn the difference between capacity, available space and battery charge.

THE QUICK ANSWER

The quick answer

Open Settings > General > About for your model, capacity and carrier-lock information. For battery health, open Settings > Battery, then Battery Health or Battery Health & Charging, depending on your model and software. Quote the phone's total capacity, not the free space remaining.

Identify the exact model

In Settings > General > About, find Model Name. Copy the complete name, including Plus, Pro or Pro Max when shown. Similar-looking phones can belong to different models.

The name you assigned to the phone is not its model. If a buyer needs the model number, Apple says tapping the part number beside Model Number reveals it. If the phone will not turn on, disclose that limitation rather than guessing from its appearance.

Use capacity, not available storage

About shows capacity and available space. Settings > General > iPhone Storage also shows storage use. For a quote, choose the phone's sold storage tier, such as 128GB or 256GB—not the amount still available.

Your iCloud subscription is separate. Paying for more iCloud space does not turn a 128GB iPhone into a 256GB device. Deleting apps or photos changes free space, not the phone's hardware storage tier.

Check health rather than today's charge

On iPhone 15 and later with supported software, Apple places battery information under Settings > Battery > Battery Health. On iPhone 11 through 14, look for Battery Health & Charging.

Record Maximum Capacity and any service recommendation or battery warning. Maximum Capacity describes battery condition; the charge percentage in the status bar describes today's remaining charge. Charging to 100% does not restore battery health to 100%.

If the phone cannot display a reliable health figure, tell the buyer what it shows. Do not enter a guessed percentage to reach a higher quote.

Check carrier restrictions separately

In Settings > General > About, check Carrier Lock. Apple says No SIM restrictions indicates an unlocked iPhone. Only the carrier can authorize a carrier unlock.

Carrier lock, financing and Activation Lock are separate checks. An unlocked phone can still have an outstanding balance or an account restriction. Confirm payoff with your carrier and resolve ownership or account issues before selling.

You can record these details privately without publishing your full serial number or IMEI in a social post. Share identifiers only through a trusted process when they are needed for verification.

Common questions

Is 100% charge the same as 100% battery health?

No. Charge is the energy currently available. Battery health estimates the battery's capacity relative to when it was new.

Does No SIM restrictions mean the phone is paid off?

No. It describes carrier-lock status. Check financing separately with the carrier or account holder.
